KRK V6S5 — Fifth-Generation V Series Nearfield Reference

The KRK V6S5 belongs to the V Series Five, the fifth generation of KRK's V Series nearfield monitors. It is a two-way, bi-amplified active studio monitor designed for accurate mixing, music production and critical listening, with a focus on reliable mix translation between different playback systems. The V6S5 is the mid-sized model of the series, combining a 6.5-inch woofer with low-frequency extension down to 40 Hz.

Drivers and Cabinet

Low and mid frequencies are handled by a 6.5-inch woofer with a woven Kevlar® aramid fibre cone, a shorting ring for lower distortion and ferrite main and bucking magnets. A 1-inch silk-dome tweeter with a copper cap and a large rear damping chamber delivers detailed, controlled highs, while its waveguide helps off-axis behaviour. The PVC vinyl-wrapped MDF enclosure uses a die-cast aluminium baffle and a front-firing bass reflex port, which makes placement in a typical studio room easier.

Electronics and Amplification

The electronics platform combines ESS converters, Analog Devices DSP and Pascal Class D amplifier modules. The bi-amplified design drives the woofer with 280 W and the tweeter with 175 W, giving plenty of headroom for loud playback without losing control.

Room Correction, EQ and Presets

Boundary EQ settings compensate for placement near walls or on a large mixing desk, with separate LF EQ (shelf cut/boost and a desk filter centred at 200 Hz) and HF EQ (shelf and parametric). For difficult acoustics, immersive installations or cinema systems behind a perforated screen, the PRO EQ section offers seven fully parametric bands (two shelving, five parametric) with adjustable frequency, Q and gain. Delay can be set from 0 to 200 ms. Three user presets store all current settings and a compare screen lets you switch between them — for example to check mix translation against an emulated reference speaker.

KRK Mesh and KRK Control App

KRK Mesh technology lets you control the monitor wirelessly from the KRK Control App for iOS. Monitors can be controlled individually or grouped in configurations from stereo up to full Dolby Atmos® systems, so level, mute, A/B EQ comparison and other functions can be changed after installation without reaching for the rear panel.

Practical Details

The monitor ships with a removable protective grille fitted; KRK states that the grille does not change the frequency response, so it can stay on or come off depending on your preference. With the analog input selected, automatic standby switches the monitor off after 20 minutes without signal and wakes it when audio returns; the function can be disabled in the setup menu. The V6S5 is sold as a single monitor in black.
